A few years ago, I was in New York for work. My husband and I extended my work trip and turned it into a long weekend to hang out in the city. I had never had an authentic NY Bagel so I was on a mission to find the best one out there. Thankfully, Best Bagel & Coffee came up in my research and it was within walking distance from where we were staying.
At this seven-year-old shop near Penn Station, fault-finders may zero in on the beastly proportions of the bagels, abundance of chicken cutlets on everything, and menu detours into the more phantasmagorical realms of chicken “cheesesteaks” and “Italian” omelettes. But its fans are legion, and though these hulkish bagels aren’t like others around town, the choir is totally on key. The full-throttle morning-rush-hour assembly line is a real sight to behold, and in the unlikely event that your sandwich fails to impress, each foil-wrapped example could probably double as a travel pillow for the LONG ride home.
It was everything I was hoping for. I ordered an Everything Bagel with Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Avocado and it was SCRUMPTIOUS!!
