One of my favorite dishes as a kid was my dad’s homemade Chicken & Dumplings. It’s the quintessential Southern comfort dish with a rich chicken broth and homemade dumplings seasoned with lots of black pepper. When I first learned to make this dish, I made it as the recipe describes below. However, lately my husband and I have been smoking our chicken instead of boiling it. It adds such a great flavor to an already fantastic dish.
