Old Tyme Grocery is an institution in Lafayette, LA that is not to be missed if you’re in the area. It has been in business since 1982 and is located within walking distance to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It has been voted # 1 in budget dining on Trip Advisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards and they have some of the best po-boys on the planet.
When you walk into Old Tyme, it transports you to a simpler time to your neighborhood corner market. Behind the counter, however, they are slicing fresh deli meats and frying fresh seafood to stuff into po-boys that will knock your socks off. My favorite po-boy is, of course, the fried shrimp po-boy. I get mine with mayo, pickles, and pepper jack cheese only. Some of their other popular po-boys are roast beef, catfish, and oyster. If you’re watching carbs, you can always order a salad with any of the meats or seafood added to it.
They often have “off menu” specials, which should be considered. Some of these specials include soft-shelled crab po-boys, muffuletta po-boys, and fried crawfish po-boys.
